FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
Master Plumbers and Mechanical Contractors ExemptNew Jersey Legislature overwhelmingly passes LP Gas Exemption and Sends to Governor For Signature2/25/2011 -- The New Jersey Legislature has just given Master Plumbers and Mechanical Contractors a much anticipated exemption from the newly adopted LP Gas Safety Boards certification requirements. On October 6, 2010 the LP Gas certification came into effect in New Jersey, leaving Master Plumbers and Mechanical Contractors reeling from the impending damage to their business'. The New Jersey State League of Master Plumbers teamed up with UA Local #9, the New Jersey Alliance of Master Plumbers and the New Jersey Council of Master Plumbers to petition the new Director of Codes and Standards at the New Jersey Department of Community Affairs to postpone action on the new regulations. After Codes and Standards Director - Edward Smith postponed any enforcement of Master Plumbers for a period of one year. The State League of Master Plumbers and UA Local # 9 brought legislation to the state legislature that would exempt them from the requirements set forth in the new law. The New Jersey Senate overwhelmingly passed the Legislation 83 - 0 as State League Legislative and Code Committee Chairman and Past President Steven Rodzinak and Co-Chairman Thomas F. Walsh watched from the Senate gallery in Trenton. Assemblyman Vincent Prieto who sponsored the new HVACR licensing law legislation crafted the Assembly version of the exemption and by overwhelming majority, the Assembly passed the legislation exempting Master Plumbers and HVACR Contractors from the requirements. The law was then sent to Governor Christie who had questions as to how and why this took place. After being apprised of the situation regarding the exemption the bill was put in to be signed into law by the Governor.
